The ‘Wodaabe Collection’ combines Denise’s cross-cultural, ancestral heritage with her love of cream earthenware.  Using her signature clay blend, slip cast from a handmade plaster mould - Denise appliqués each vase with an African head. An additional embellishment is made to complement the head – before an under glaze and clear gaze is fired.  To secure vibrancy and colour, an under glaze & clear glaze is permeated by the kiln, finished with a 9ct gold lustre.  

 

The heads are symbolic of the Nomadic ‘Wodaabe’ tribe - renowned for their beauty, elaborate attire and rich cultural ceremonies.  Significant attention is applied to depict the detailed hoops and headdress that the indigenous tribe wears.
